Sister Bay / Liberty Grove Library Commission
Meeting February 10, 2009
The meeting of the Sister Bay / Liberty Grove Library was called to order by Virginia Phelan at 9:07 A.M.
Members Present: Virginia Phelan, Allen Strack, John Jensen, Ralph Blankenburg, Sharon Doersching, Margot Warch and Henry Timm.
Absent: Betty Curzon
Public Input:
We received a thank you letter from Allen & Nancy Strack for the gift certificate for dinner.
Approval of Minutes of November 11, 2008 Meeting:
Sharon Doersching moved to approve the minutes of the November 11 meeting and Henry Timm seconded the motion. The motion passed 6-0.
Liberian’s Report:
Circulation figures for this November are higher than last year's. We checked out/renewed 4,958 items in Nov. 2008 compared to 4,466 in 2007. Our year-to¬date circulation is ahead by nearly 5,000 items over last year at this point--64,577 com pared to 60,140!
People, computer and programming counts are as follows:
2007 2008
3,111 people 3,203 people
2007-387 compo users 205 hrs of use, 7 programs, 105 kids/123 adults
2008-330 compo users 184 hrs of use, 4 programs, 19 kids/19 adults
The greater number of people participating in programs last year is because of Children's Book Week occurring in November. Children's Book Week has now been changed to May of each year, so we had no special programming for that event this year. The Community Room was used a total of ten times for programs/meetings last month. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, the library is decorated for Christmas and the display case has a great seasonal exhibit. Be sure to check it out!
Would it be possible for the Commission to get estimates on installing heaters in the bathrooms? The ladies room is particularly frigid in the winter! Staff has gotten several complaints the past few weeks. I think a fan forced or baseboard electric heater in each would be enough to take the chill away.

Ralph Blankenburg received a letter from Wisconsin Energy about a free kit to convert exit lights to LED. Ralph will check with Joe about checking our lights. It was also reported that Joan Timm fell in the lobby. Ralph filed an accident report. He also showed Betty Curzon how to fill out the reports and set up a file for her with report. This was our first reported accident.

Henry Timm reported that he is trying to get poets for an event in April for poetry month. This would be a countywide event and the library would be tied into it.
Acquisitions:
Margot Warch reported on the acquisitions committee meeting. They spent time setting up the start of a mission statement.
Margot asked for direction on what authority they have to select and approve donation. Also, can they be looking for artwork? She would like a new release form. Margot will work with Ralph Blankenburg on what is needed in this release letter. We also discussed that we may need a place to store extra painting. Margot reviewed the committee’s opinion on the art that is being held in Betty’s office.
The Sister Bay / Liberty Grove Library Commission expressed a need to meet with the Acquisition’s Committee.
There will be another meeting in May and Margot will report back.
There will not be a meeting in March.
