Chairman Steve Jones called the meeting to order at 7:48 PM. Also attending: Committee members Frank Forkert, Janice Thomas, Casey St. Henry, John Ludwigsen, & Mary Ellen Sisulak and Clerk/Administrator W. Kalms.

This meeting followed a public information meeting led by Kevin Luecke of the Wisconsin Bicycle Federation. The committee members gave a brief summary of each of their activities and status in the town. Luecke comments: the bike path study is to provide a vision and safety; there are more bikes in the area but little local effort to address them; many could park their cars and bike around most of the time; the process will take a number of years; is working on inventory evaluation now to see what is out there; has GIS data; the September meeting will have maps to designate bike facilities recommendations; material will be sent to the committee to review; a full draft plan with specific recommendations will be ready for the October meeting; statistics show 50% of students biked and walked to school in 1969—today that is less than 5% with bus riding staying the same; the maps that the committee reviews should be returned about a week after the September meeting.

Sisulak wondered about using snowmobile trails. Luecke said there could be some overlap; these trails are on land that used in the summer and are not paved. He said state and DOT grants may be available.

Future meetings will be 9/27, 10/27 and 11/9.

Public comments. How valuable is the survey; would statistics from the sheriff’s department help (yes); concern about foreigners who ride in the dark with no lights; Lions club may get involved.

Ludwigsen moved, Thomas second to adjourn. Carried 6-0. 8:34 PM
