September 1, 2009 WHO CAN VOTE AT A TOWN MEETING

A person is not required to be a registered voter in order to vote at a town elector meeting. They only need to meet the qualifications under Wisconsin State Statute 6.02. This stat. states that if you meet the 10 day residency requirement (you have been at this residence for at least 10 days prior to the vote) and are otherwise qualified, you may vote at a town elector meeting. "Otherwise qualified" means that you would have to show proof that your residence is a permanent one such as a utility bill, rental agreement or photo ID with correct address on it. If your photo ID had a post office box as the mailing address then you would need to show one of the above mentioned forms of identification. People living in campers on their properties would not qualify to vote at a town meeting.
